"Sedona"

Sweetheart,

Would you believe — there’s a wedding happening right here, amidst the red rock. It reminds me of ours — the ancient chants, the tethers to tradition, the light of sky. It reminds me of that single moment: the universe opened, and we were married to everything.

"Postcards: Sedona" first published in Wanderlust

Notes: While hiking in the Sedona mountainscape, I stumbled upon a wedding incorporating Native American traditions. The setting, the sunlight, the minister's resonant voice — all made the event ethereal in quality, as though earth and sky were being joined along with the couple. When Wanderlust Journal offered a 50-words-or-less postcard essay challenge, I wondered whether I could so briefly encapsulate this transcendent experience.
